Since our inception, over fifteen years ago, McArc hams have provided support to the community. We have worked bicycle rides and races and founder’s day and such other events. This year, in 2014, we provided support to the Tour de Castroville. You may read the article on our home page.
Arnold Dollase, the event coordinator for the City of Castroville, approached us and asked if we can help with the “Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration.” In speaking with the Castroville Police Chief, Chris Filline, they will need volunteers to work the parking lots. We can use our radios and equipment or they can furnish their radios for our use. Our mission would be to monitor the parking lots for suspicious activities and relay any traffic back to their command post.
The number of volunteers needed are a minimum of two and as many as five. With five volunteers we would have one at each of three parking areas, a fourth in a strategic location and the fifth at the command post.
We realize that this is relatively short notice, compared to what we usually get, and the Independence Day weekend is often difficult for getting volunteers. That said, it is our reputation for professionalism and dedication to our duty that caused the even planners and coordinators to think of us to fill this vital role.
